Friday The 13th Franchise Research

Friday the 13th is an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films, a television show, novels, comic books, and tie‑in merchandise. The franchise mainly focuses on the fictional character Jason Voorhees, who drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff. Decades later, the lake is rumored to be "cursed" and is the setting for a series of mass murders. Jason is featured in all of the films, as either the killer or the motivation for the killings. The original film was written by Victor Miller and was produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham.The films have grossed over $465 million at the box-office worldwide.

The first film was created to cash in on the success of Halloween (1978) and its own success led Paramount Pictures to purchase the full licensing rights to Friday the 13th. Frank Mancuso, Jr., who produced the films, also developed the television show Friday the 13th, The Series after Paramount released Jason Lives. The television series was not connected to the franchise by any character or setting, but was created based on the idea of "bad luck and curses", which the film series symbolized.

Pearl Harbour

No ident's, starts with peaceful music played by string instruments, most likely the Violin. This is played over a Bi-Plane flying in the sunset with a lot of orange light and shadowing to exaggerate this, next scene is the title of the film "Pearl Harbour" shown n a serif font and large capital letters making it stand out from the bright orange sun in the background, this also makes the film feel more serious.
The title is then followed by the same plane flying as a low angle shot, this could show that the plane is owning the sky at that moment and is bigger than everything else, theoretically. The camera then follows the plane as it fly's, going into a mid angle shot facing the plane as it comes in. By the type of plane it is you can tell what year or decade the film / opening is set in. It's a old red Bi-Plane, not sure on make, but you could take a guess and by looking at the front of the DVD cover, that it's Pre-War or Wartime era.
This then moves to a few side shots of the plane followed by the camera following the plane behind it as it's in the air, behind a title saying "Teressee, 1923," again in a serif font but smaller and white, as if it was typed using a type writer. By this title you are now able to give a exact year of this opening screenplay and also the location this scene is set, Tenessee, so America. The typewriter text also add's to the seriousness of the first title. After this it moves to a moving camera on the ground, looking up at the plane as it flies over a barn, the camera is also moving through a corn field, just above the crops. This shot can show that this is the Tennessee countryside or farmland / rural area, Most likely on a farm, as there are fields with crops and also a wooden barn. The Camera carries on moving above the field even when the plane has gone past, the camera also gets higher as it moves towards the barn, as if it is also flying and free. In the next scene, it's showing 2 boys playing in the barn, this is the first time we see people on this film, which might make us, the audience think they are important roles or stars in the film, which they are as you watch the full film, but only in character, as they used different actors for when they are older. The transition into this is also well done as it shows them in the barn, after the camera was seen moving towards the barn or towards them playing.

Attack the Block Intro Semiotic Analysis

The first scene is the camera looking up at the stars, this gives us a feeling that space or stars may have a key meaning or important role in what is going to happen in the film. The camera then starts coming down showing fireworks, this could then mean that the film or opening scene is set on bonfire night or some sort off other celebration. in the next scene theres a woman on the phone in the underground, this tells us that its set in London. The camera then follows this woman throughout the firast couple off scenes as she appears to be walking home, By this time it shows us that this woman is a important character in the film or she's linked with a key event in the film. During this it tells us that it is made by/associated with Studio Canal, Film 4, Uk Film Council and is producted by Big Talk Picture.

The woman then gets confronted by a gang of masked youth's and gets mugged, follow'ed by a meteor or star shooting down out of the sky and destroying a car next to the mugging that was taken place, this gave the woman time to run away, and this is where we see the "monster" this film, as the gang ring leader got attacked by it. They then start to hunt the creature down and this is where the plot of the film starts.

Film Poster Deconstruction

1. His facial emotions -  In the poster he is happy and is smiling and his eye brows are raised, this shows that he is happy who he is and he's not thinking about losing his virginity.
2. His Hair - His hair is neatly combed over, this signifies that he's a tidy person and not very wild or exciting.
3. The bright sun like background - This adds on to him being happy, and it also makes his body stand out more from the poster.
4. He is also sat down as if its a photo shoot, like a school photo, its kind off what you do if you had a family and you want a family picture, but this is showing him alone which may signify that he is alone and may not have any family or any loved ones.

First 10 Shot types of a students final cut

The first 10 shots of the "Full Moon" Final cut are:

1. Very Longshot- This shows us where the setting of this final cut is, and something about the house.
2. Longshot- Another long shot showing us the house, but the camera is showing us the side with glass doors, this could make the house look vulnerable and easy to break into.
3. Medium longshot- this was used to show us the couple leaving a room inside the house, also maybe telling us their in a relationship or something like that.
4. Medium Longshot- From a camera outside into a window, showing he couple walk past, this gives you the idea someones watching them and somethings bad is going to happen.
5. Medium Longshot- From behind them inside the house, showing them walk through a corridor.
6. Longshot- Showing them walking through the same corridor but from the front view, again given you the idea theres someone in the house maybe watching them.
7. Longshot- Showing us the glass doors again but this time showing the couple walk past them, this shows their vulnerability again and that someone is watching them.
8. Medium Longshot- Showing the couple from behind as the man is showing the girl to the door.
9. Close up- Showing the man open the door with a key.
10. Medium Shot- Showing the couple as the man opens the door, the girl then leaves the house.

Halloween Poster.

The shot used for this picture is a medium longshot, as it shows us the top of his head to his knees, this shot was used so that you are able to see his face aswell as the knife hes holding by his side. The shot was also a low angle shot, making the man with the knife seem more menacing and powerfull. Also in this poster there is a extreme longshot of what appears to be a house. You can tell this is a horror because there is the typical stereotype horror film killer barnishing a knife, and also most horror films are in a creepy maybe deserted house or building.

Exploring A Past Student's Blog.

The student's blog i explored was Roam Hamilton.
Here are a few points i noticed:
- He changed their film title very late on from "Roadside" to "Full Moon" and they actually changed the title the day they finished their production.

-In the opening of 'Friday The 13th' its not common that the young 'scream queen' at the beginning of the film survives. But in this opening the 'scream queen' kills the perpetrator who is a mother grieving the death of her son "Jason". The twist is that "Jason" comes back and is vengeful wielding various weapons. ( Friday 13th)

-He used Facebook to to show people his rough cut, so people would be able to give him feedback, so he can improve on the cut and change things.

Pearl Harbor Trailer

This is my favourite film because when i was younger, when i lived at our old house, like when i was 7 or 8, me and my friend just used to watch this film constantly, and it was are favourite film and always has been, another reason is because i love war films and action films like this.
